The sequel to music-turned-musical-turned-movie Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, is landing soon, and one very exciting inclusion is bona fide legend Cher.
She joins a cast that’s so top-heavy with stars already that it’s a wonder it hasn’t caused screens to fall over from their stellar weight (OK, lousy analogy – hey, it is first thing Monday morning!)
Not only does Cher feature in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, but she also gets to sing one of ABBA’s most cherished songs, Fernando. The original release spent an incredible 14 weeks at number one here in Australia, a record that was only bested just last year by some bloke named Ed Sheeran, with his song Shape of You.
We don’t know about you, but even if we were as mega as Cher we’d be pretty darned nervous singing an ABBA song when the band’s writers – Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson – are hanging around the production. So for Björn to claim that Cher is “perfect for the song” is high praise indeed.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will bring Swedish joy to Australian cinemas on July 19.
