Wow, inflation’s a beeyatch! Mark Wahlberg is set to star in an update of the ’70s series The Six Million Dollar Man. Except three extra zeroes have been added to make it The Six Billion Dollar Man.
The original starred Lee Majors as astronaut Colonel Steve Austin, who suffered severe injuries after an experimental jet that he was piloting crashed. But they could rebuild him! Hence the TV-watching world was introduced to the concept of bionics, with Steve gaining superhuman strengths via replacement of both his legs, his right arm and his left eye. Plus bonus – that super-cool sound when he ran!
Wahlberg’s take on Austin was due for release late in 2017, but obviously that didn’t happen. To be directed by Argentinian Damián Szifron, The Six Billion Dollar Man is now set to hit on May 31, 2019, so they’d better get cracking. Maybe they can install speed-enhancing bionic implants into all the people on-set?
By the way, that three zero jump is a bit on the OTT side. When adjusted for inflation since 1973 the title really should be The $55,587,500 Man. We guess that’d look a bit crap on a poster though.
