A trailer has landed for Mary Poppins: The Next Generation, a movie which, for some reason, Disney called Mary Poppins Returns instead.

Emily Blunt steps into the shoes of the magical, umbrella-wielding nanny as she looks after the next generation of the Banks family following a great loss.

Featuring all-new songs, some impressive names have also been lined up, including Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and the one-and-only Dick Van Dyke, who played Bert in the original Mary Poppins movie.

Mary Poppins Returns opens in Australian cinemas on January 1, 2019.

Relive the magic of the original, with Mary Poppins at JB Hi-Fi.
