Way back in 1981, Mel Brooks unleashed the movie History of the World: Part I. In all the years that have followed, there’s not been a Part II – until now… erm, soon.

To be fair, there was never meant to be a second part, it was just Mel Brooks being Mel Brooks. But now things have changed, with a follow-up set to come in eight-episode series form, at least according to the fine people at Variety.

The original was a series of sketches and musical numbers set in various notable stages of world history, and this will apparently follow in the same vein.

Mr Brooks is set to both write and executive produce the new series, with names such as Nick Kroll and Wanda Sykes joining him at the writer’s table.

Apparently Brooks said of the project: “I can’t wait to once more tell the real truth about all the phony baloney stories the world has been conned into believing are history!”
