A live action movie based on the crazy-popular creation tool/game Minecraft was announced five years ago, and was due around about now. Please don’t hold your breath.
A progress update has appeared on the official Minecraft site, stating that the movie has been pushed back to a March 4, 2022 release. That’s quite a while, but they’re remaining positive, claiming hey, it’s only about 34 months, or 150 weeks, or a million and a half minutes…
An official synopsis has also been released, which goes a little something like this: “The story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld.”
Peter Sollett is set to direct, a guy who also gave us the rather sweet Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. He’s also penning the screenplay.
Meanwhile, if you’ve pretty much no idea what this Minecraft thing is a: you obviously don’t have kids in your orbit and b: the trailer below may give you a little more idea (or c: it’s kind of like video game LEGO):
