Ah, the joys of licensing. With Sony having their very own little Marvel playground in Spider-Man’s orbit, and the success of Venom, it seems that there’s plenty more to come.
But next up is Morbius, featuring baddie Morbius the Living Vampire, AKA scientist Dr. Michael Morbius, who first appeared in the comic The Amazing Spider-Man #101 back in 1971.
Crippled by a blood disease, he developed an experimental treatment that involving vampire bats and electroshocks. It had its side effects, however, such as kind of turning him into a pseudo-vampire with a need to consume blood in order to survive. He also gained other vampire traits such as the ability to fly and an aversion to sunlight – not to mention those pointy pointy fangs.
Anyway, Morbius is set to star Jared Leto as the titular character, and production is scheduled to commence early in 2019 (which isn’t that far away now). Daniel Espinosa, (Life) will be sitting in the director’s chair.
In other Spideyverse news, another villain in Kraven the Hunter is also down to get his own flick. It’s in very early stages currently, with screenwriter Rickard Wenk (the Equalizer movies) apparently hoping to include an appearance from Spider-Man. Hmm, if Venom couldn’t manage it, could Kraven?
Meanwhile, the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse will swing by Australian cinemas from December 13, 2018.
