Located east of Melbourne in Victoria’s Gippsland region, JB Hi-Fi’s Traralgon store has something of a monopoly on the home entertainment requirements of the local population.
“It helps that there isn’t anywhere else around here that has the range JB stocks,” explains Movie Coordinator Corey Davenport. “The closet JB store to us is in Pakenham, which is probably about an hour away. There are also quite a few travelling customers that come to us on their way to and from Melbourne.
“We’re not a Home store, we don’t have small appliances here either, it’s just a JB for entertainment – movies, music and games.”
Approaching his seventh anniversary working for JB, Corey says that being a Movie Coordinator can sometimes be an occupational hazard for a movie buff and collector of discs. “I’ve got three bookshelves full at home: DVDs, Blu-rays, and TV series.”
Corey counts blockbusters like Jurassic Park and The Hunger Games amongst his personal favourites and admits that when it comes to TV shows, he’ll watch anything. “I get recommendations from customers to watch things, and I do.”
As to the viewing preferences of Traralgon residents, Corey says the store moves a lot of New Release as well as back catalogue TV series, across all genres. “It’s pretty good. Netflix is trying to take over, but we’re still chugging along really well at this store.
“Thor: Ragnarok has gone off, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has done really well, and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is doing awesomely! 4K is starting to move really well now, too. The Greatest Showman is also going to be popular, especially being released for Mother’s Day.
“And I’ve had people asking for Deadpool 2 for the last six months,” he adds with a laugh.
