The stars are coming out for the new animated take on ghouly comics and then TV classic The Addams Family, with a whole bunch of big names taking on the various members of the family Addams.
Seriously, check out this list. Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) as Gomez, Charlize Theron (Atomic Blonde) as Morticia, Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard (TV’s Stranger Things) as Pugsley, Nick Kroll (Gunter in Sing) as Uncle Fester and oh no, Bette Midler (Hocus Pocus) as Grandmama. The wonderful Allison Janney (I, Tonya) will give voice to the family’s “archnemesis”, Margaux Needler.
The story will be take in an origin story, while also seeing the family facing off against a sneaky reality-TV host while they also juggle arrangements for a major extended family celebration.
Sausage Party directorial pair Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan (the latter of whom is otherwise known for directing oodles of episodes of Thomas the Tank Engine’s adventures) are directing the take on Charles Addams’ classic characters, and it’s due to hit cinemas late in 2019.
“Greg and I have always been fans of The Addams Family in past versions,” said Vernon in a press release. “So when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams’ and introduce them to a new generation.”
