The next DC superhero to get their own movie has been announced – come on down, Supergirl!
While much of the DC movie conjecture has tended to be towards what will happen with her steely younger cousin, the news comes as another potentially refreshing – and hopefully less grim – addition to the DC movie canon.
Details are thin on the ground, according to Deadline who first dropped the news, with 22 Jump Street (and the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie) writer Oren Uziel aboard – and that’s about it.
It’s the first big news since the whole DC movie thing was given a shake-up following the successful – but relatively disappointing – Justice League. With new people at the DC reins, the focus is on having a bit more fun entering the universe.
The Supergirl character has a heap of potential for this, and with movies starring Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Margot Robbie returning as Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey, Zachary ‘Chuck’ Levi in Shazam!, Ezra Miller in his own flick as The Flash and Joaquin Phoenix as The Joker also in the works, hopes are high for the odd smile on the DC dial.
Of course this won’t be Supergirl’s first movie rodeo, with the cult classic 1984 Supergirl out there. here’s a quick look back at it…
