The LEGO Movie was truly (and appropriately) awesome, and The LEGO Batman Movie totally rocked. The LEGO Ninjago Movie is looking pretty sweet, and The LEGO Movie 2 is slated for early 2019. But did you know that there’s another LEGO movie in development?
It’s currently known as The Billion Brick Race, and is rumoured to be a Cannonball Run type blast – except, of course, totally LEGOfied. Produced by the same team behind The LEGO Movie – Dan Lin, Phil Lord, Chris Miller and Roy Lee – it was being written and directed by Jason Segel (The Muppets – and, of course, Marshall from How I Met Your Mother) and Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), and directed by the latter, but now more faces have come into play.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Jorge R. Gutiérrez, Annie Award-winning director of 2014’s criminally under-seen animated movie The Book of Life, along with his writing cohort Douglas Langdale, have just signed on for The Billion Brick Race. We’re not sure whether they’re pushing the other two guys out, but no matter what it’s an exciting development. The man himself has confirmed the appointment on Twitter.

The Billion Brick Race is currently down for a 2019 release, following on from The LEGO Movie 2 (which is apparently going to be an action musical set in space, meaning spaceships, spaceships, SPACESHIPS!). Meanwhile, The LEGO Ninjago movie is hitting Aussie cinemas on September 21, and yes, we’ve already bought the minifigures.
