From the wild mind of director Sion Sono comes Prisoners of the Ghostland, featuring Nicolas Cage in the kind of role he does best – basically playing Nicolas Cage.
Or, at the very least, the Nicolas Cage that we think Nicolas Cage is, based on what has come from him previously. Erm, we think that makes sense…
Anyway, the action/horror/thriller – which Cage himself has claimed is his wildest movie yet – is set in a frontier city known as Samurai Town. A ruthless bank robber known as Hero – Cage – “is sprung from jail by a wealthy warlord, The Governor, whose adopted granddaughter has run away. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within five days if he doesn’t find the missing girl, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman — and his own path to redemption.”
Sofia Boutella, Bill Mosley, Nick Cassavetes and Tak Sakaaguchi also star.
Prisoners of the Ghostland is set for overseas release on September 17 – we eagerly await a local date. Check it out:
