Lucasfilm has revealed the first official image of Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the upcoming fifth instalment.

Filming for Indy 5 wrapped in February following a lengthy delay due to Harrison Ford sustaining a shoulder injury during a rehearsal. With post-production well underway, the yet-to-be-titled film is the first Lucasfilm production outside of the Star Wars franchise with director James Mangold (Ford v Ferrari) taking over the reins from Steven Spielberg, who remains onboard as a producer.

Posted to the official Indiana Jones Twitter account, the first official image might as well be a poster unto itself. The image depicts the iconic action hero’s silhouetted figure stepping away from a rickety suspension bridge inside the cavern of a cave. With a torch in hand, the world-famous archeologist appears to be as legendary as ever and primed for adventure.

The film is said to be a sequel and a prequel with elements of the story taking place, presumedly, during the missing years between the various instalments. Ford will be de-aged for these portions of the film and will be joined by a cavalcade of stars including Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonia Banderas, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Kretschmann, Shaunette RenΓ©e Wilson and Toby Jones.

Indy 5 is scheduled for release in June, 2023 and will mark 15 years since the release of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Earlier this week Harrison Ford joined legendary composer John Williams on stage at the Star Wars Celebration and gave a sincere address to the audience, revealing his gratitude for decades of fandom and confirmed that Indy 5 is almost done and dusted. The moment was captured by fans and you can see for yourself…
