Mindy Kaling, of The Mindy Project, has a new project getting ready for takeoff: a TV adaptation/update of romcom classic Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Initially a 12-episode series, it’s set to take the unashamedly romantic vibe and irreverent edge of the Richard Curtis-penned original and give it an updated spin.
Rather than centring around a new Hugh Grant-alike, the series revolves around Maya (Nathalie Emmanuel, Game of Thrones), a US senator’s communications director. She receives a wedding invitation from her college schoolmate who’s now living in London, and leaves both her professional and personal lives behind to hit up the UK. Here she reconnects with old friends – and their various personal crises. As to who’s involved with the four weddings and the funeral, well we’ll just have to wait and see.
Mainly featuring fresh faces, a certain Andie MacDowell does also feature in the series.
While we await Australian release details, Four Weddings and a Funeral commences its US run on July 31. Anyway, here’s a look at it. What do you think?
