As Gary Oldman’s award-winning turn as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour recently proved, making your star really look the part really helps. It seems that Tom Hardy has this down for upcoming Al Capone biopic Fonzo.

Hardy has shared some pretty wild images on Instagram, in which we see the transformation of cool British actor into infamous American gangster. Alfonse ‘Fonzo’ Capone, who was also known as ‘Scarface’, oversaw a seven-year Prohibition-era crime syndicate in Chicago, until he was eventually jailed – for tax evasion.

Mega awkward character misstep ?

Hardy has also been quick to praise the makeup team – always a good idea when you’re in their hands for several hours per day…

Fonzo is set to tell the tale of the original gangster in his late 40s. After 10 years in jail he becomes haunted by his violent past, as syphilitic dementia overtakes him.

Alongside Hardy we’ll see Linda Cardellini, Matt Dillon, Kyle MacLachlan and Noel Fisher (who we once knew as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Michelangelo).

Still early in production, we have no release date for Fonzo as yet.
