Aussies do great wedding flicks, so we’ll definitely be putting Top End Wedding on our calendar, which is set to feature many of the people behind The Sapphires both onscreen and off.
Chief amongst these is Miranda Tapsell, who will not only star, but has also co-written the script for Top End Wedding. She’ll be joined onscreen by Gwilym Lee (to be seen next as Brian May in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody) plus a hot ensemble cast that will include Kerry Fox (Bright Star), Ursula Yovich (Australia), Shari Sebbens (The Sapphires) and Elaine Crombie (Top of the Lake).
The movie will tell the story of successful Sydney lawyer Lauren (Tapsell) and her fiancée Ned (Lee), and their endeavours to get their perfect wedding together. This involves trying to track down Lauren’s AWOL mum on a trip through Northern Territory highlights such as Darwin, Katherine, Kakadu and the Tiwi Islands.
Wayne Blair (The Sapphires, Cleverman) is set to direct the production, which gets underway this month.
“I couldn’t be prouder to be at the helm of this love letter to the Northern Territory,” enthuses Blair. “With an exceptional script balancing humour with heritage, we are excited to welcome the cast and crew to our backyard, and embark on this journey to deliver a rollicking good time for a worldwide audience.”
