The line between games and movies/television has been blurring more and more in recent years, and now comes news that a series is coming based on PlayStation exclusive The Last of Us.
HBO are behind the production, with Naughty Dog writer Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) teaming to develop an adaptation of the classic PS3 and PS4 game.
“Neil Druckmann is without question the finest storyteller working in the video game medium, and The Last of Us is his magnum opus,” said Mazin. “Getting a chance to adapt this breathtaking work of art has been a dream of mine for years, and I’m so honored to do it in partnership with Neil.”
For the uninitiated, the story of The Last of Us takes place 20 years after modern civilisation has been destroyed. It centres around Joel, a survivor who’s hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of a quarantine zone. Cue an incredible journey full of emotion – and all manner of violent undead types.
Meanwhile, a long-awaited sequel to the game, The Last of Us Part II, is set to arrive for PS4 on May 29. Pre-order from JB Hi-Fi here.
