As it celebrates its 20th anniversary, a fourth film in The Matrix series is set to be brought into existence.
It’s not some tatty no-name cast thing either, with Variety reporting that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are reprising their roles of Neo and Trinity. Meanwhile, one half of the original creative team, Lana Wachowski, will be writing, directing and producing.
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now,” says Lana. “I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
There’s no word of Laurence Fishburne returning as Morpheus, with speculation that a younger actor will be cast in the role. This makes for all sorts of further speculation regarding what’s going on in this one time-wise.
Production on what’s currently known as The Matrix 4 is set to start early next year.
