The tale of Doctor Dolittle has hit our screens several times, but now it’s coming to us with Iron Man as the good doctor, and a budget the size of a planet.
It seems that US $175 million buys you a lot of voices, and the cast that provide various animal utterances for Dolittle really is impressive. In no order whatsoever, the list includes Emma Thompson, Rami Malek, Kumail Nanjiani, Selena Gomez, John Cena, Ralph Fiennes, Octavia Spencer, Tom Holland, Marion Cotillard, Frances de la Tour, Carmen Ejogo and Craig Robinson.
Then there are humans joining Downey Jr such as Antonio Banderas, Jim Broadbent and Michael Sheen.
This reimagining of the classic Hugh Lofting tales sees Dr John Dolittle become a hermit following the death of his wife, with only his menagerie of exotic animals for company. But when the young queen falls seriously ill, he’s forced to set sail on an epic adventure to a mythical island in search of a cure.
In quite the tonal change, Dolittle comes to us from Syriana director Stephen Gaghan, and is scheduled to arrive in Australian cinemas from January 9, 2020.
