The TV world of DC is about to get an Aussie injection, with Ruby Rose cast as Batwoman in an upcoming crossover event.

The Melbourne-born actress will be portraying the female caped crusader Kate Kane in a collision of Supergirl, Arrow and The Flash that’s set to air in December this year. Should that go down as well as hoped, then there’ll be a Batwoman series set in the same universe, starring Rose.

The Batwoman series is currently in development, with Smallville and The Vampire Diaries writer Caroline Dries putting words together in script form. It even has an official blurb, which goes a little something like this:

“Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Beyond just being parochial – Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, etc – we reckon it’s a great piece of casting. Hopefully we’ll see a lot more of Rose as Gotham’s protector in the near future.
