The new trailer for HBO’s series adaptation of Watchmen, the seminal graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, has debuted at Comic-Con.

Created by Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers), this ambitious 10-episode series is set in the present day, albeit in an alternative universe where costumed crimefighters are outlawed, the Doomsday Clock is still ticking. masked vigilantes and cops do battle in a chaotic street war, and the all powerful (and blue) Dr. Manhattan is living on Mars.

Starring Jeremy Irons, Regina King, Don Johnson and Tim Blake Nelson, the Watchmen series looks significantly different from Zack Snyder’s 2009 film version and more in tune with the sociopolitical themes explored in the graphic novel. And on the strength of Lindelof’s prior shows, expect it to be both baffling and brilliant.

Watchmen will premiere in October 2019.
