Filming has just commenced on the second in the planned five film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them series. Erm, so that’s a quintilogy then? Anyway, it’s revealed a bit more about the plot.
Taking the Fantastic Beasts world beyond New York, we’ll head variously to London and Paris. Dark wizard Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) threatened to escape and guess what? He has. It will take some serious magical muscle to recapture him, so who ya gonna call? Some bloke who fans may be familair with, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law). They used to be friends (a long time ago), but an incident involving the death of Albus’ sister has left them as sworn enemies. As his former student Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) managed to thwart Grindelwald previously, Dumbledore enlists his help in this important quest.
Familiar faces return in Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), Queenie (Alison Sudol), Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), Credence Barebone (Ezra Miller), Leta Lestrange (Zoë Kravitz), Kevin Guthrie (Mr Abernathy) and, of course, Depp. As well as Law, new faces include Callum Turner (Assassin’s Creed) as Newt’s older brother Theseus Scamander, Claudia Kim (The Dark Tower), Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The BFG), Ingvar Eggert Sigurðsson (Of Horses and Men) and William Nadylam (Kirikou and the Sorceress).
Director David Yates returns, while the script was penned by some up-and-comer named JK Rowling. Fantastic Beasts 2 is down to hit cinemas in November 2018, and a proper title should be conjured up by then.
