SEGA are on a roll with the movie success of Sonic the Hedgehog, but will that translate to their classic Mega Drive brawler series Streets of Rage?
They’re certainly going about it the right way, with John Wick creator – and Nobody writer – Derek Kolstrad on board, according to Deadline.
Production company dj2 Entertainment are behind it, who like their games it seems with TV series based on the Life Is Strange series, the award-winning It Takes Two, Disco Elysium, Tomb Raider (an animated version), My Friend Pedro, Little Nightmares and Ruiner also in the works, as well as a movie based on Sleeping Dogs.
If you’re not familiar with Streets of Rage, it was a side-scrolling beat ’em up very much in the vein of Double Dragon and Capcom’s Final Fight that was short on plot and big on action. The premise was that a collection of ex cops turned vigilantes – Axel, Blaze and Adam – were trying to rid their big city of a nasty old crime syndicate headed by the nefarious Mr. X. Three games graced the Mega Drive, while a fourth series entry was released in 2020.
