A new film from visionary director Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Pacific Rim) is always an event, and here’s the first look at his latest creature feature.

Set in a Cold War America, circa 1963, Sally Hawkins plays a mute government lab worker who befriends a classified experiment – a lonely aquatic creature who can communicate with her.

This other-worldly fairy tale from the master of the genre also stars the great Michael Shannon and Octavia Spencer, with del Toro regular Doug Jones as the monster, of course.

The Shape of Water is due in cinemas early 2018.
