When you’ve let loose some 630 episodes of a show, with almost all of them featuring a unique sequence in their opening, it could be expected that quality would falter somewhere. This latest couch gag for The Simpsons, however, is quite stunning.
Created by American cartoonist and animator Bill Plympton, it features an extended sequence of Homer singing a song called Your Face, while his head contorts in increasingly weird and wonderful ways.
It may be somewhat familiar to some, for Plympton’s original 1987 non-Simpsonsified (obviously) version was nominated for a “Best Animated Short Film” Oscar.
Here’s the trippy new intro for The Simpsons, with the original just beneath it. Don’t worry, nobody has spiked your coffee, they’re just totally trippy…
