The past couple of days have seeen three new TV spots for Sonic the Hedeghog 2 drop, all with new bits and bobs for eagle-eyed fans to spot.

Returning to the fray for the movie are Jim Carrey (complete with more authentically Eggman-like ‘tache), James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally and Ben Schwartz (as the voice of Sonic), while Idris Elba will give voice to Knuckles. It’s also been confirmed that Colleen O’Shaughnessey is voicing Tails, as she does in other versions of Sonic.

Jeff Fowler returns to the director’s chair, and the same pair of writers – Pat Casey and Josh Miller – are joined by Josh Whittington (The LEGO Batman Movie).

Here’s the official blurb thingy: “Months later after defeating Dr. Robotnik and banishing him to a planet full of mushrooms, Sonic is ready for more freedom, as Tom and Maddie agree to let him stay home while they go on vacation. However, Dr. Robotnik, now known as Dr. Eggman, returns from the mushroom planet with a new partner, Knuckles, in search of an emerald that can give the power to build and destroy civilisations. Now, Sonic and his newfound friend Tails embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into Robotnik’s hands.”

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled to arrive in Australian cinemas on March 31. Here are the three TV spots – thank you Super Bowl LVI – and boy are we digging the giant Eggman robot in the third one down…
