This one’s been coming for a while, but the non-DC and non-Marvel superhero flick Samaritan, starring Sly Stallone, isn’t far off now.

Billed as “a dark, fresh take on the superhero genre”, Stallone plays an ageing superhero who’s now quite content working as a garbage collector.

it’s been penned by the guy behind 2011’s Nic Cage-starring Season of the Witch, Bragi Schut, and directed by Julius Avery, who gave us the full-on Overlord.

Here’s the story: “Thirteen-year-old Sam Cleary suspects that his mysterious and reclusive neighbor Mr. Smith is actually a legend hiding in plain sight. Twenty years ago, Granite City’s super-powered vigilante, Samaritan, was reported dead after a fiery warehouse battle with his rival, Nemesis. Most believe Samaritan perished in the fire, but some in the city, like Sam, have hope that he is still alive. With crime on the rise and the city on the brink of chaos, Sam makes it his mission to coax his neighbor out of hiding to save the city from ruin.”

Javon “Wanna” Walton is the kid who stars alongside Stallone, and if the trailer is any indication this looks like it may be a fun action throwback.

Speaking of, here’s that trailer for Samaritan, which is set to launch from August 28:
