We’ve sometimes wondered where J.J. Abrams’ loyalties lie, with him having worked on both the Star Trek and Star Wars movie franchises.
We still don’t know the answer to that. What we do know, however, is that he’s heading back to the Star Wars universe, as he’s been brought in to take over writing and directing duties from Colin Trevorrow on Star Wars: Episode IX. Having been responsible for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, this will be good news to many a fan of George Lucas’ epic space opera.
In relation to the appointment, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said, “With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy.”
Hmm, watch your back, Abrams…
Meanwhile, in crappy – but not surprising – Episode IX news, the release date has been pushed back from May 24, 2019 to December 20, 2019. Hey, just in time for Christmas!
