Halloween is a big thing everywhere now it seems, so while you’re handing out nutriciously-appropriate snacks or ducking flying eggs on October 31, you can also get into what horror maestro Stephen King recommends.

The people at EW asked King for his movie, TV and book recommendations, and he duly delivered.

Some may be surprised at his movie choice – this year’s remake of Child’s Play. King told EW, “I didn’t go see it in the theatres, because I thought, ‘Well, this is just another warmed-over sequel.’ Mark Hamill does the voice of Chucky and I just f–ing loved that movie! I laughed and I cried at the things in there. Everybody who’s in the movie does a terrific job. It’s a smart script and it’s just a load of fun. It really is. It’s gruesome as hell.”

For TV, King suggests the French series Marianne, while for those who prefer words on pages, his pick is Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo.

It’s Child’s Play at JB Hi-Fi.
