Rian Johnson has popped back to Earth from the Star Wars galaxy to give us a full-on whodunnit in Knives Out.

Johnson both wrote the film and directs, and he’s roped in a rather impressive cast. Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Toni Collette, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Longford, Jaeden Martell and Christopher Plummer all star.

Basically this is Johnson’s big love letter to Agatha Christie, with the classic setup whereby any party can be the guilty one. We’ll let the official blurb cast its magic: “When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death.”

Knives Out is set for an overseas release in late November. We eagerly await an Australian release date – in the study, with the computer keyboard…
