Sword up for The Kid Who Would Be King

Sword up for The Kid Who Would Be King

The very fun-looking The Kid Who Would Be King is set to bring the legend of King Arthur and the sword in the stone back to our screens, and here’s another peek at it.

Hailing from the writer and director of the extremely ace Attack the Block, Joe Cornish, it’s a welcome return of the rollicking live-action kids adventure movie.

Louis Ashbourne Serkis (yes, Andy’s kid) plays 12-year-old Alex. While he thinks he’s just like any other kid, fate has plans for him – and that fate is revealed when he stumbles upon Excalibur, the mythical sword in the stone that isn’t in there anymore because Alex pulls it out.

Now, it’s up to Alex and a band of friends, enemies and the great wizard Merlin (who’s hanging out in the body of another school kid) to unite in order to save the world from wicked enchantress Morgana. Hopefully Alex has hidden leadership qualities…

As well as Serkis, the cast includes Rebecca Ferguson as Morgana and Patrick Stewart as Merlin (when he’s not inhabiting a teenager’s body).

The Kid Who Would Be King is set for an Australian cinema release on January 17.
