The super-addictive puzzle game Tetris has been available on pretty much every format known to humankind, so why not a movie as well?
Mind you, it’s being gone about the right way, in that the story behind how the Russian game Tetris made it to the west is worthy of a movie in itself, and indeed that’s what we’re going to get.
Deadline report that Tetris: The Movie, will star Taron Egerton as Henk Rogers, the entrepreneur behind the worldwide promotion of the game, who today heads up The Tetris Company. There’s no casting news as yet as to who will portray the genius behind Tetris, Alexey Pajitnov.
The producers have also slotted a director into place, in the shape of Jon S. Baird (Stan & Ollie). Production is set to begin next month.
Meanwhile, look out for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, a collision of the Russian classic and cool Japanese puzzler Puyo Puyo, on December 8. Pre-order now at JB Hi-Fi.
