The latest tech-heavy animated film, Ron’s Gone Wrong, is set to give us a super-cute – but all kinds of broken – star.

Looking somewhat akin to a cross between Big Hero 6‘s Baymax and a Minion, Ron is a B*Bot. It’s the new craze, and every kid has one – even Barney. But his one doesn’t quite live up to the specs on the box.

The official line is this: “Ron’s Gone Wrong is the story of Barney, a socially awkward middle-schooler and Ron, his new walking, talking, digitally-connected device, which is supposed to be his ‘Best Friend out of the Box.’ Ron’s hilarious malfunctions, set against the backdrop of the social media age, launch them into an action-packed journey in which boy and robot come to terms with the wonderful messiness of true friendship.”

New UK animation company Locksmith is behind the production, with direction from former Pixar artist Jean-Philippe Vine and Sarah Smith (Arthur Christmas), with another former Pixar person in Octavio Rodriguez co-directing. Meanwhile, the script was penned by Smith, alongside Peter Baynham, who has the Borat films, Alan Partridge and Hotel Transylvania on his CV.

The voice cast is a strong one, boasting Zach Galifianakis, Jack Dylan Grazer, Olivia Colman, Ed Helms, Rob Delaney and Justice Smith.

Ron’s Gone Wrong is set to arrive in Australian cinemas on October 28. Here’s a very cute new clip, with the latest trailer beneath that:
