The Martian author Andy Weir hasn’t even finished his new book – heck, he hasn’t even given it a title yet – and it’s been snapped up for the movie treatment.
MGM are behind the project, with Ryan Gosling set to star and Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who’ve previously given us everything from The LEGO Movie to Spider-Man: Inot the Spider-Verse, attached to direct.
“All of us at MGM are incredibly excited by this literal dream team coming together around Andy’s astounding novel,” MGM chief Michael De Luca told Variety. “With their masterful ability to balance drama, action, and humour, Phil and Chris are the perfect filmmakers to take on this unique material.”
Little is known about Weir’s book currently, which has the working title Project Hail Mary. It’s being described as “a solitary tale of an astronaut on a space ship who is tasked with saving the planet.”
