Another trailer for Disney’s next big fantasy flick The Nutcracker and the Four Realms has landed, and it looks like it will transport us to a wondrous place.

Based on German author ETA Hoffmann’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, with lashings of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker mixed in (which many will know from Disney’s Fantasia), the movie sees young Clara (Mackenzie Foy) searching for a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother.

A golden thread leads her to this key – whereby it disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. Here Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip, a gang of mice, and the regents who preside over three Realms – the Land of Snowflakes, the Land of Flowers and the Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world.

Also starring Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Richard E Grant, Miranda Hart, Jack Whitehall and Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms was directed by Lasse Hallström (the very same man who gave us ABBA: The Movie!) together with Joe Johnston (Jumanji), and opens in Australian cinemas on November 22.
