Adi Shankar, the producer of the TV take on video game classic Castlevania, has put his name behind a fan film that gives us a rather different look at Townsville’s finest, The Powerpuff Girls.

That’s Townsville USA, not Queenland, obviously.

Separate to Shankar’s “One Shot Presents” series, this one was made a guy named Steven LaMorte for the paltry sum (well, moviemaking-wise) of US$9,000.

Entitled Powerpuff Girls: The Long Way Back, the live action presentation brings us back into the universe of the now voluntarily power-free Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup 10 years after the death of their beloved Professor Utonium.

Oh and yes, Mojo Jojo makes an appearance.

It’s certainly a long way from the sugar, spice and everything nice (plus Chemical X, of course) ethos of the Cartoon Network series, but it can’t be denied that The Long Way Back puts an interesting spin on the Powerpuff Girls’ world.
