Pixar’s next new tale is Luca, which is set in Italy. A bright new featurette focuses on the animated movie’s picturesque town of Portorosso.

Most likely an homage to the Studio Ghibli film Porco Rosso – Luca director Enrico Casarosa has been vocal about his love of the works of Hayao Miyazaki – the featurette gives us interviews with cast and crew, and more looks at the beautiful scenery that will feature in the movie.

Not sure what it’s about? Well, basically Luca is a coming-of-age story about two young sea monsters who turn into human form on land. It’s kind of a spin on the classic The Little Mermaid tale, with a bit of Gremlins “don’t get them wet” thrown in.

The voice cast includes Jacob Tremblay, Jack Dylan Grazer, Emma Berman, Maya Rudolph, Marco Barricelli and Jim Gaffigan.

Luca really does look quite special, and will be in Australian cinemas from June 17.
