This really is happening – we’ll be able to take in the sequel to Top Gun some 33 years after it first hit the skies.
Now officially dated for July 2019, Top Gun: Maverick will see Tom Cruise in a whole different world of warfare. The days of aerial dogfights are pretty much over, with drone warfare now very much the go. We feel the need… the need for batteries!
Cruise has been dropping hints all over the place as to what else to expect. “Stylistically it’s gonna be the same. We’re gonna have the same score from Harold Faltermeyer,” he told Access Hollywood. “Aviators are back, the need for speed. We’re gonna have big, fast machines. It’s going to be a competition film, like the first one, and it’s going to be in the same vein as the first one – but a progression for Maverick.”
Will all the rampant blokeyness of a new Top Gun fly in the 21st century? Hey, we’ll find out in two years! Meanwhile, here’s a refresher on the original…
