For a while there it looked like HBO may have passed on a third season of True Detective, but now there’s confirmation hat it’s a definite goer.

It was touch and go for a while, as following the first season’s popularity, many shunned the second season for – putting it politely – being a bit too complicated.

With TV being the new movies and all that, the series has had different stars and stories for the previous two outings – Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, then Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn. Now rumour has been confirmed that Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) has signed on for series three.

That’s about it for details thus far, but having Ali – who’s been seen in everything from Treme to House of Cards and The Hunger Games to The Place Beyond the Pines – on board is a very good start.

With no new footage to give you (for obvious reasons), here’s a trailer for the first season so that we can all reminisce.
