Last year’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie ended up being super-fun, so a sequel didn’t take long to start happening. Now Idris Elba has been added to the cast, voicing Knuckles.
The plucky red echidna is the guardian of the Master Emerald, so we reckon he might have some beef with Robotnik in the sequel, which is also set to include Sonic’s pal Tails (aka Miles Prower).
Elba announced the role via the following tweet, which features Knuckles’ catchphrase:

Jim Carrey will return as the evil-dude-also-known-as-Eggman, Ben Schwartz will be back voicing Sonic, and his pal Tom will once again be portrayed by James Marsden. There’s no word yet on who’ll be giving voice to Tails, although the character’s official voice actress, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, provided his brief cameo in the first movie. Hopefully she’ll return.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently scheduled to race into Australian cinemas from April 7, 2022.
