What, no question mark? No, that headline doesn’t warrant one, as it isn’t a question – the fez-worshipping Doctor Who, aka Matt Smith, is heading to a galaxy far, far away.
He certainly gets around, from space, to Buckingham Palace in The Crown and now back to space once more in J.J. Abrams’ latest Star Wars instalment.
The news comes via Variety, and it’s just the latest in what’s becoming quite an impressive cast list for the ninth main line Star Wars flick.
Smith joins returning stars such as Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domnhall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Lupita N’yongo, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher (via previously unused footage), Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels, while the likes of Keri Russell, the magnificent Richard E. Grant, Naomi Ackie and Dominic Monaghan (Charlie from TV’s Lost) all join the space party.
Star Wars: Episode IX will actually have a name by the time it hits cinemas in December 2019.
