A Willow TV series is on its way, starring the original Willow Ufgood himself, Warwick Davis.
Sorry if any Buffy fans got a bit excited by the headline.
This is a separate thing to the possible sequel that Ron Howard spoke of a while back, although he’s involved as an executive producer. Jon M. Chu, the director of Crazy Rich Asians, is also on board to direct the pilot episode.
The story is set to take place several years after events of the 1988 movie, and will introduce new characters amidst the old such as the titular guy.
“So many fans have asked me over the years if Willow will make a return, and now I’m thrilled to tell them that he will indeed,” said Warwick Davis of the announcement. “Many have told me they grew up with Willow and that the film has influenced how they view heroism in our own world. If Willow Ufgood can represent the heroic potential in all of us, then he is a character I am extremely honoured to reprise.”
The series is slated to begin production next year in Wales, which is where the movie was filmed all those years ago. Here’s a reminder of it:
