As the year 2045 inches ever closer, so does the release of Spielberg’s Ready Player One, based on the best-selling Ernest Cline novel of the same name.
A new featurette has just popped up, looking at the influence of Spielberg’s works on Cline, and giving us some more insight into the movie itself.
If you’re not up with the story, Ready Player One is set in 2045, where a virtual reality experience called OASIS – cue legal action from the Gallagher brothers – is all the rage. Its creator has just died, but he’s left behind a video that teases of an Easter egg being hidden somewhere in the vast virtual world. Find it and his massive fortune – and control of OASIS – will be yours. The superheroically-named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan, aka the X-Men’s Cyclops) is the one to find the first clue, and the race to unearth the egg intensifies dramatically.
The movie – which is jammed with pop culture Easter eggs that will have those people who make lists going nuts – also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance.
Ready Player One hits Australian cinemas on March 29.
