Claire van der Boom, Liam McIntyre and Andrea Demetriades head the cast of the new homegrown medical drama Pulse, which has just gone into production.

Inspired by the true story of a transplant patient who became a doctor, the ABC TV show centres on a corporate high flier Frankie Bell (van der Boom), who switches to a career in medicine after suffering kidney failure.

As well former Spartacus star McIntyre and Demetriades (Janet King), the Pulse ensemble also includes Owen Teale (Game of Thrones), Susie Porter (Puberty Blues), Arka Das (Top of The Lake), Penny Cook (A Country Practice), Blessing Mokgohloa (Hunters), Pallavi Sharda (Lion) and Renee Lim (Please Like Me).

Sally Riley, ABC’s Head of Scripted Production, says: “With an extraordinary true story as inspiration and starring two of Australia’s finest young female actors, Pulse will rivet audiences with the life and death decisions faced daily by a group of young medical interns still grappling with the meaning of their own lives.”
