The first images have been released of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in the big budget Tomb Raider reboot.
Taking its cues from the 2013 game, the new film is an origins story with Croft traveling to an island off the coast of Japan to find her father, who disappeared years before while searching for a legendary ancient dagger.
The first two images were published exclusively in Vanity Fair, with Vikander telling the magazine: “Lara Croft is a truly iconic character. I think people can identify with her for lots of different reasons, but for me I very much see her as a model for many young women. She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past. She also has a fantastic mix of traits—tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass!
Tomb Raider is due in cinemas next year.
