The director of Gremlins and The Howling will begin production on The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes in 2017, which looks at the making of Roger Corman’s 1967 psychedelic cult classic The Trip.

The material is perfect for Dante, who got his start in filmmaking cutting trailers for Corman before making his directorial debut with Piranha in 1978.

Casting is yet to be announced, however a recent live reading of the screenplay featured Bill Hader as Corman, Jason Ritter as Trip star Peter Fonda, and Ethan Embry as screenwriter Jack Nicholson.

Although not technically a biopic on the legendary B-movie producer and director (which would require a series of films to tell the whole story), the film will provide a fascinating insight into one of cinema’s most enterprising and influential figures.
