La La Land has received a record-equalling 14 nominations for this year’s Oscars.
As expected, the Golden Globe-winning musical is the early frontrunner, with Damien Chazelle up for Best Director and both Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling receiving nominations in the best actor categories. The movie’s 14 nominations equals the record set previously by All About Eve in 1951 and Titanic in 1998.
La La Land is followed by Arrival and Moonlight, both of which received eight nominations, while the acclaimed drama Manchester By The Sea picked up six.
Australian projects are also set to feature prominently at this year’s Oscars, with Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge leading the way with six nominations, including Best Director and a Best Actor nod fro Andrew Garfield.
Lion also landed six nominations, with both Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel landing Best Supporting Actress and Actor nominations. In addition, Australia received its first ever nomination in the Foreign Film category for Tanna, which is set on the island of Vanuatu.
The 89th Academy Awards, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held on February 26.
