Mel Gibson has nabbed the rights to Australian Victoria Cross winner Mark Donaldson’s best-selling autobiography.

Mel Gibson nabs The CrossroadAccording to Variety, Gibson and his Icon Films’ partner Bruce Davey have secured the movie rights for The Crossroad, which tells the incredible true story of the soldier who in 2008 became the first Australian to receive our highest award for bravery in wartime since 1969.

Gibson’s action thriller Blood Father has just opened in cinemas, while his latest directorial effort, the World War II drama Hacksaw Ridge, will arrive on the big screen in November.

Donaldson’s memoir follows his turbulent early life – his mother disappeared, presumed murdered, in his rebellious teen years – to the harrowing realities of combat in Afghanistan.
