Eddie Murphy’s comedy smash Coming to America has come to 4K Ultra HD. So, how is it? Is it fit for a prince, or will it make you wince?

The story: A pampered African prince reaches his 21st birthday, so it’s time to marry him off. But he is unchallenged by the subservient wife chosen for him, and wishes to explore his options. Would it be so bad to have somebody with their own will? But where to find such a woman? America just may be a good place to start. Cue fish out of water comedy…

“Listen, I know what I like, and I know you know what I like, because you were trained to know what I like, but I would like to know, what do you like?”

The 4K disc: Paramount have delivered a brand new, native 4K transfer that is most definitely fit for a prince. The detail is majestic, and the use of Dolby Vision brings life to everything from the wild colours of Zamunda through to the rather bleaker shades of grey and brown found in Queens. While film grain is ever present, it’s fine and never invasive to what is a grand viewing experience.

A solid DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 audio track delivers the goods, avoiding many of the issues that other films of their vintage often exhibit by way of sound that’s too centre channel focussed. The whole soundstage is used to varying degrees throughout, especially bringing life to the Nile Rodgers soundtrack, while dialogue is always clean and clear.

While this is a single disc release, we are treated to some bonus features on the 4K disc. These amount to four featurettes and an interview with stars Murphy and Hall, along with a gallery and trailer.
