4K October 2019 - Finding NemoOne of Pixar’s most loved adventures, Finding Nemo, swims its way onto 4K Ultra HD. So, how does it fare on the format? Should you say, “Mine! Mine! Mine!”, or just throw it back?

The story: If you love a good fishy tale, it’s hard to go past this beautiful Pixar adventure. For the uninitiated – if there is indeed such a person – it’s the tale of an understandably overprotective father clownfish who sets out to find his missing son. Along the way both our elder and younger orange piscine pals have various adventures and encounters – but will they ever be reunited?

“I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.”

The 4K disc: Finding Nemo dates back to 2003, which is a long time ago in Pixar years. While it’s all computer-generated, it would be fair to expect the technology of the day to not weigh in as well as that of today. The good news is that while it may lack some of the super extra-fine detail that Pixar manage to floor us with nowadays, Finding Nemo still looks stunning. It’s been nicely upscaled from a 2K master, looking the treat that it always has, but with something new added to the mix, of course, in HDR. This addition alone makes the movie “pop” more than ever at home, increasing the vitality of the undersea vision beautifully, and working a treat on out-of-water sequences too.

Audio doesn’t let the side down, either, with a new Dolby Atmos mix delivering the goods. We can’t resist saying that it’s an appropriately immersive soundtrack – and it really is. While you’ll need to bump the volume up a little more than usual, as with most Disney Atmos mixes, the result is worth that button-prodding or knob-twiddling effort. Effects and score swim in and out of the height channels, combining with playful use of the surrounds and pleasing bass for a true sonic treat.

This is a single-disc release, with no extra features included.
