If Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron sound like an unlikely pairing for a rom-com then their characters are even more mismatched.

He’s an unemployed journalist and fashion criminal, she’s the US Secretary of State with an eye on the presidency. When the pair meet at a charity event it’s initially awkward, but a shared past is the icebreaker that gets these two together, with Rogen enlisted as her speechwriter. Essentially Notting Hill as a political satire, this is one of the most entertaining romantic comedies in a long time, with great chemistry between the leads and some genuinely hilarious moments, not least Theron negotiating a hostage situation while stoned. It also has a ribald streak, Andy Serkis as a Rupert Murdoch type, and Better Call Saul‘s Bob Odenkirk as the POTUS. What’s not to like?
